The birth of LOOOPS

Spring 2020. The Pilates studios in Berlin are dark, the reformers stand still. So too at The Pilates Movement Berlin, the studio of Isabelle Pollet-Villard. She was a ballet dancer for around 18 years, is a certified Stott Pilates instructor and knows every detail of a reformer. And one detail in particular wouldn't let her go during those weeks.

The one part nobody talked about

When it became clear that studios would be allowed to reopen under hygiene rules, everyone talked about distancing, ventilation and disinfection. Reformer frames, footbars, headrests: all smooth surfaces, easy to wipe down. But then there are the straps. Padded fabric that hands grab and feet slip into. Class after class, person after person.

Everyone brings their own mat. Their own water bottle, too. So why not their own straps?

That question turned into a prototype. And the prototype turned into a product that had to do several things at once:

• Fit every reformer. Hence the D-ring that any standard carabiner hooks into.
• Work for hands and feet. Hence two D-rings: short loop, long loop, one LOOOP.
• Go in the washing machine. Hence tear-resistant polyester that handles 30 °C with ease.
• Be fun. If you're bringing your own equipment anyway, make it something you love to show off.

October 2020: LOOOPS

The first collection, "La 1° Collection", launched in October 2020: solid colours like Black Knight, Salmon Rose, Feels like Heaven and Lime Green, plus the patterns Leo Baby and Today's deadly. The name? Three Os, because two just aren't enough.

Covid is over. The issue isn't.

The masks are gone, but the habit has stayed: many people no longer want to touch what someone else just had in their hand or on their foot. That goes for towels, for mats and for reformer straps too. On top of that, your own equipment simply feels different. It's yours.

That's why LOOOPS are still here today, and that's why we say: Clean. Cool. Yours.
